This week I had COVID and so progress slowed on the project for most of the week. However during this off time it allowed me to further sharpen the image of what I wanted my final product to look like. Once I was well enough I went back to the level I had made as I knew it needed more personality to really give it the vibe of ps2 era action racing games.
I decided to add rain through a particle system and also created many neon sign decals in Photoshop that could be used as cheap ways of creating more energy and liveliness within the scene.
I think this helps to add to the personality of the city, making it feel more vibrant, lived in, and grounded in reality with sleazy signs and adds flashing over citizens.
The rain particles will be parented to the player, making it seem like the rain is everywhere and also adding to the sense of speed due to its angle.
The city is really starting to come together. I added a fog 'floor' to make it seem as if city plunges deep into the fog and pollution down below.
