I started off my Capstone project by creating exploring ideas that I wanted to create. I landed upon a Wipeout inspired game, with a focus on a more retro and stylized look. Inspired by things such as Cowboy Bebop and the PSX era I created a mood board. Through my exploration I found main inspirations in Gran Turismo, Midnight Club 3, Cyberpunk 2077 and SSX3. I also may explore character designs in the future and so added some of them to my mood board. This mood board has allowed for me to focus all of my initial ideas into a more concise theme and project style making future work easier.
I then created the first of hopefully many player ships. This one is for a character called Scarlet. A woman fighter pilot with a mean streak and a hunger for winning by any means necessary. My main focus for this model was to create a sleek, yet grounded look for my hovercraft. With my textures I aimed to bring even more realism to it by adding plenty of scratching and personals touches to it such as a kill count etched into the side of her craft. I also utilized a new technique when texturing this model. I baked an ambient occlusion map within Maya and then used it with a filter within Substance painter to give it a more painted and patchy look to it. This can be see with the discolouring of the white on the edges of the craft.
My UV map, which I manually cut and laid out.
